No Gloom Or Doom From Charity’s New Climate Officer!

Local Sustainable Development Coordinator Appointed

Sustainable Wales (SW) employs a young graduate, thanks to funding from the Postcode Lottery.

Ella Williamson looks forward to working with the community and young people in the Bridgend County Borough.

Director, Margaret Minhinnick, speaking on behalf of all the SW Trustees, describes their delight at the opportunity this post brings to the area.

“It offers local groups support to share information and ideas about a better future.”

Local collaboration will be required to respond to environmental issues.”

Ella Williamson, has recently graduated with a masters-of-science degree in ‘Climate Change, Development and Policy’, from the Institute of Development Studies in Brighton. She has now moved back to hometown, Porthcawl.

Ella says “I am an ‘optimistic person’ and believe collective actions can result in a more sustainable future.

Margaret explained, “Ella will help form a young person’s climate group and develop a partnership of community groups to work with BCBC on the regeneration plans for Porthcawl.”

Ella added, “I love my home-town, it’s gorgeous and quirky! But also the rolling hills of Bridgend county borough. I know the county has much to offer, while the regeneration plans can mean an exciting new dawn for Porthcawl.”

I particularly look forward to starting a Youth Climate Group in Porthcawl.

“Education is key to learning to live with climate change, and to building a more sustainable future.

But, no doom and gloom from me, even though I understand that climate change is happening now!

“Instead, I hope to encourage positive actions in the face of the most serious issue any of us will face.”
